Tiger skin trader arrested by Leopard Sporc Team in Sibolga

Thursday, July 17, 2009, a Sumatran tiger (Panthera tigris sumatrae) skin trader arrested by Leopard SPORC Team led by Sofyan and Musriadi, and assisted WCU Team (Wildlife Crimes Unit). The suspect (Stp) was arrested at his drug store in the Sibolga Nauli Market, Sibolga when showing a tiger skin to SPORC members in disguise into buyers. Currently the suspect was still in the process of investigation in SPORC headquarters in Medan.
From the suspect's hand, successfully secured 13 pieces of tiger skin size (± 30 cm) and 20 pieces of tiger skin small size (± 10 cm). Including pieces of tiger skin which still faces a young age. Also seized were 24 pieces of various sizes of deer skin. According to the suspect, tiger skins are sold for magical means.
Meanwhile, two men accused (Rdn and Shb) cases of tiger skin trade is conducted in Rawa Bening Market, Jatinegara have each been sentenced to 1.5 years and 1.3 years, and with 2.5 million each by the magistrate court East Jakarta (07/07/2009). Four other suspects are still in the process of claims by the District Court of East Jakarta and North Jakarta.
According to the Head of KSDA Central North Sumatera, Jl. Witjaksono Djati Hadi, M. Si, his side as the Technical Implementation Unit (UPT) and the PHKA Directorate General Implementing Management Authority (Management Authority) CITES in North Sumatra had a couple of times to give a circular letter on the Prohibition of Trafficking Protected Wildlife Act who to Store Gold shops and traders / Souvenir shop in shops and hotels in North Sumatra. However, the shops are still traded in a closed section of protected wildlife.

Sumatran tiger is the top predator that is important in maintaining ecological sustainability. The absence of tigers may delegate its prey animals such as pigs and monkey, which is also a pest to farmers' gardens in the surrounding forest. "Perindungan Sumatran tiger is not only crucial for the sustainability of the forest environment, but the benchmark serious we are in Indonesia to preserve biodiversity in the face of the world community" says Dr. Noviar Andayani, director of the Wildlife Conservation Society (WCS) Indonesia program, one of the conservation organizations that take great care in the protection of this endangered species.
According Hariyo T. Wibisono, Chairman of the Forum HarimauKita: Sumatran tiger conservation forum, Sumatran tiger population declining rapidly in the past 10 years, mainly because of poaching and illegal trade in tiger body parts. Tiger body parts are traded was also allegedly came from a strong tiger conflicts with residents who are generally leads to the death of tiger. Strong law enforcement in the field of hunting and trade in protected wildlife protected wildlife will be saved from danger of extinction.
